Who We Are
Healing Hounds, LLC is a mobile canine physical therapy practice. This means we come to you to perform a thorough evaluation in the comfort of your own home. We devise a treatment plan customized to your pet and their specific needs, no matter the age, diagnosis, or ability of your pet. Many companion animals can benefit from physical therapy, not just dogs! Please let us know how we can help.

Post operatively
Other neurological conditions

And so much more!
How do I get started?
Give us a call or fill out the contact form and we will get some basic information.
We will contact your veterinarian to obtain your pet’s records and a referral for physical therapy.
Please note: if your pet has not been seen for the issue you are inquiring about, you will need to see your veterinarian first to obtain a diagnosis and see if physical therapy is appropriate at this time.
Once we have the records and referral we will schedule an appointment.
Healing Hounds, LLC is a mobile physical therapy service, so the evaluation and treatment take place right in your own home. No worrying about how to get your pet in the car because of an injury, their size, or they just hate car rides. Treatment is provided in their own environment and removes the nerves they get in a clinic atmosphere.
What should I expect?
Upon arrival, the therapist will take some time to talk with you, obtain a little more information, and let your pet get comfortable.
The evaluation includes two parts, observation and hands on assessment. We start with observation to make it easiest for your pet. This involves looking at gait, posture, and functional movement as well as looking for signs of pain, discomfort, or lameness.
The hands on portion will include assessing range of motion, strength, flexibility, palpation to check for any areas of tension or tenderness, and tests for any neurologic concerns.
Once the evaluation is complete, the therapist will devise a treatment plan tailored to your pets needs based on the assessment.
Treatment is provided during the first visit as well as home instruction for you to carry over pain management techniques and/or an exercise program with your pet.
We will also recommend a frequency and treatment plan to achieve the goals you are looking to reach.
Common Treatments
Pain Relief
Our primary goal is effective pain relief. Reducing your pet's pain helps them engage better in therapy for improved strength and movement. Common treatments for pain relief include heat or ice, pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF), and cold laser therapy. All of these modalities reduce pain and inflammation while boosting blood flow to aid healing. They can be used in conjunction with medications prescribed by your veterinarian and may help lower medication needs over time.
Exercise
Exercise is a big part of your dog’s physical therapy. We start out slow and easy and build up the level of difficulty and repetitions as your pet improves. This applies to all diagnoses and all age ranges as the exercise is tailored to your pet’s specific needs. In addition to the exercise your pet does during therapy, you will be provided a custom home exercise program to perform with your pet in between sessions. This program will also be adapted as needed to reach your pet’s therapy goals.
Manual Therapy
Manual therapy can include massage, myofascial release, gentle joint glides or mobilizations, compressions or distractions to release muscle tension and joint restrictions allowing for better range of motion, flexibility, and comfort. None of this is uncomfortable for your pet, in fact, they usually lie back and relax for the “spa day” treatment. Some of the easier techniques may be added to your home exercise program to provide ongoing relief of these issues in between therapy sessions.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Do you only treat dogs?
No! We can treat any small companion animal, it’s just that dogs are the most common. Many cats suffer from the same types of issues as dogs, but are much more stoic about it and symptoms often get missed. Is your older kitty having trouble making the jumps he used to be able to make? He may have osteoarthritis and/or weakness. Discuss this issue with your vet and if therapy is indicated, give us a call!
What are the hours of Healing Hounds, LLC?
Treatments are scheduled Monday through Thursday by appointment.
What is your service area?
The service area is the seacoast of NH, generally within 30 minutes of Dover, however we can go further for an added travel fee. Unfortunately, the Veterinary Practice Act in Maine does not allow physical therapists to treat canines independently, so we are unable to provide treatment in Maine.
What is the cost?
Cost varies. There may be a promotion and follow up sessions are structured around what your specific pet would benefit from, so we will discuss this during the initial call. Packages are available for added savings.
What payment types are accepted?
Cash, Venmo,* Apple/Google pay,* or credit card* are accepted payments which are due at the time of treatment. *Transaction fees apply.
Does Healing Hounds, LLC take pet insurance?
If you have pet insurance and rehab is a covered service, we will be happy to forward any documentation needed for your reimbursement, however payment is due at the time of service.
